Below is a fascinating discussion between neuroscientist Sam Harris and philosopher Dan Dennett. I believe both were attending a TED Summit, and met in a restaurant to discuss their disagreements regarding email exchanges about their free will debate.
They end that discussion without harmonizing their positions. Listening to their discussion, it appeared to me that Dennett thought free will was an emergent property of the human brain. But it seemed vital to him that we believe in free because he fears that mankind would abandon law and order if we embraced full determinism. What do you think of their talk?
