I don' t see how science could be successful in a universe with a personal God who upsets cause and effect in order to accomplish his will or answer believer's prayers. Libertarian free will is also incompatible with a personal god. But a deistic god could certainly be the uncaused cause that set the big bang in motion then sat back to watch the Universe unfold.
I do not lean toward us being in a simulation because, as far as I can see, that's an unfalsifiable idea with no explanatory power. Every time some cosmologists claims to have falsified simulation, the postulate's proponents can say that the defect is just part of the simulation.
