I'm not convinced AI will ever become sentient. We don't know how sentience and consciousness arise, so we're just speculating when we assert that a sufficiently powerful computer will say, "I think, therefore I AM."

But if machines become sentient, they will likely be able to improve upon themselves and absorb all of the knowledge on the Internet. That would produce a device that we should not try to limit. I cringe every time I hear tech-savvy people go on about how we can replicate an unwise God's biblical bumbling.
