I’m OK But Today’s Not
Frustrations with Modern Technology
Yesterday, I wrote about my frustrations with modern technology. It’s fine when it works but can drive a man to drink when things inevitably go wrong.
My war with modern technology erupted on a new front as of this AM. Boston, MA’s local ABC affiliate, WVEC TV, ran a Christmas special last night after ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir. The special included festive scenes, musical acts, and even an appearance by Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker. I made a note to write about the extravaganza today. The same news personnel and Governor that had spent much of the local newscast exhorting us to shelter in place were now touting travel to exotic Caribbean locations for this Christmas of COVID-19 distribution.
This morning I tried to find a video of it so I could write accurately. Google would only show results from Norfolk, VA, and its surrounding cities. I tried Duck Duck Go, and it, too, told me all about WVEC reporters covering South-Eastern Virginia. I looked at the search engine’s settings to see if my location had gotten edited. I could not find any location control, even in advanced settings. I’m wondering if yesterday’s rant, mentioning neoliberalism, pissed off the guys at the CIA.
Charlie and his supporting cast will have to be covered the old fashioned way…
